About ExchangeMyPhone
How does it work?
Do you want to trade-in your old cell phone? At ExchangeMyPhone we have made selling or recycling your used or broken phones as easy as 1,2,3:
- Get your quote. Tell us the make and condition of your device and receive an instant quote. If you accept the offer you can then choose how you want to get paid or which charity you want to support. Some broken or older phones may no longer have any monetary value but can still be sent to us at no cost to be responsibly recycled.
- Ship it for free. Everyone deserves free shipping, even if the phone does not has no monetary value and is simply being recycled. For any phone you can request a postage paid envelope or instantly print a pre-paid shipping label from your home or office.
- Get paid. As soon as we receive your phone a member of our team will inspect it to confirm that it is consistent with the quote we gave you online. Once everything checks out, your payment will be processed and you can get paid via Paypal, get a check in the post or make a tax-deductible donation to charity.
What does ExchangeMyPhone do with the phones it is sent?
Well, it depends on the phone. In order to keep cell phones in circulation, rather than ending up in landfills as toxic e-waste, we either find a new home for them or work with our partners to have them ethically recycled. All phones that are sent to us are wiped of their data. If we can bring them to working condition and give them a second life, we upcycle them whenever possible.
Phones beyond repair are sent to be responsibly recycled by our e-Steward certified partners. These recyclers have pledged to only use globally responsible and safe means to process e-waste.
What is your Get Paid Or Give promise all about?
Thanks for asking! ExchangeMyPhone is the only cell phone buy-back service that gives you the chance to turn the value of your old phones into a donation for any US-registered non-profit. At checkout you simply select the charity that you want to support and we send you a tax-deductible receipt indicating the value of the exchange in an email. What's more, 100% of your donation goes directly to the charity you care about.

Do you accept any other electronics or only phones?
Phones are the biggest culprits in filling up dangerous landfills, so we decided to focus specifically on cell phones. However, we know that tablets are popular with our customers so we are also accepting iPads and a variety of other tablets. Check out our catalog for all the phones we buy or call us at (212) 804-7270 to ask about a specific model.
How can I be sure that it is safe to send you my phone(s)?
We take your privacy seriously. We will never share your information with any third parties and promise to erase all personal data that is on your phone when we receive it. You can check out our business on facebook and twitter to see what our customers are saying about us. If you have any concerns we would love to hear from you so feel free to send a message to hello@exchangemyphone.com.
Are there any steps that I should take before sending my phone(s) to you?
Yes, there are three steps that we recommend:
- Remove your SIM card. On most cell phones it is located under the battery. In an iPhone it is located at the top of the phone and can be removed by carefully inserting a thin paper clip into the hole in the SIM tray.
- Remove your phone(s) from any active service provider accounts.
- Erase any confidential information from your phone. We will make sure to double check and wipe the phone of any data when we receive it.
Does it cost money to get a price quote?
No. It is completely free!

Online Exchange
What cell phones do you take?
We accept all new, used or broken cell phones. Enter the model number and name of your cell phone in our search box to see if we can make the exchange. For example we take smart phones and cell phones such as the iPhone, Blackberry, Palm Treo, Palm Centro, Nokia, HTC, LG, Pantech, Motorola, Sanyo and Sony-Ericsson. Check out our catalog for all the models we are currently buying.
Why can't I find my phone?
Try searching by the phone's model number (see next question). If you still can't find your phone send us an email (hello@ExchangeMyPhone.com). If you have an older phone that you can't find in our catalog, please know that we recycle all phones and the postage on us.
How can I find my model number?
Most cell phones have their model numbers or model type behind their batteries (for example it will look something like the Blackberry 8900, the Samsung SCH-U460 or the LG VX5300). Check there first. if you still can't find it you can reach us personally at hello@ExchangeMyPhone.com and we will walk you through the process.
What is ExchangeMyPhone.com's definition of 100% working?
100% working means that your phone acts as if it is brand new from the factory. In practical terms all the buttons must be working, the screen cannot be cracked, there cannot be any broken pieces, there cannot be a tripped water damage sensor or any mysterious buzzing sounds. If your phone has any of these issues it may well still be worth money, but it will not be rated as 100% working by our evaluators.
How can I tell what condition my phone is in?
We have designed a series of questions to assess the condition of your phone on our website. You click on each description that you feel best fits your phone. We will give you an instant price quote on the website based on your answers and then our evaluators will asses your phone when it arrives at our offices. We want our instant price quote to be accurate, so try to be as precise as you can.
How do you calculate the value of my item?
We constantly research market data to determine the price of each cell phone. As a dynamic business, we are constantly updating our prices. All of our prices are time sensitive (the sooner you sell your phone the greater the credit you can receive). The price that we calculate for you online is valid for 30 days. After that date the price will be re-assessed.
Why is your website giving me a quote of $0 for my phone?
Not every phone that we have listed on the website has a value. In general most phones over 5 years old will have little or no value. We have these on our website because we want to offer a service for e-waste recycling. You can still send them to us for free so that we can recycle them responsibly at no cost to you.
Can I sell a bulk load of cell phones to you all at once?
Yes you can. As always, the shipping is free and this can be one of the easiest and most profitable ways to sell your phones on ExchangeMyPhone. If you have a large amount of phone it is best to call us at (212) 804-7270 so that we can determine the best way for you to package and send them. If you would like to determine the value of each phone before you send in your bulk load, you can use our website to get an instant price quote for each model.
Shipping
Do all phones qualify for free shipping?
Yes! We are committed to recycling so all phones, whether they have value or not, can be sent to us for free from anywhere in the US.
Once I have completed check-out, how do I ship my phone(s) to you?
As part of our commitment to recycling, all phones can be shipped to us for free. When you complete checkout you have two options:
- If the phone(s) have a cash value you can request a USPS postage paid envelope in the mail or you can instantly print a USPS pre-paid shipping label.
- For phones that have no value but are being recycled, you can instantly print a USPS pre-paid shipping label.
If you choose to receive an envelope in the mail it will typically arrive in 3 business days. If you choose to print a postage paid shipping label it will be sent to your email account so you can print it from your home or office and instantly attach it to your own packaging (see below).
What if my phone is not worth anything, how can I send phones to be recycled?
If your phone(s) has no value and is being sent for recycling, a USPS pre-paid shipping label will be sent to your email account as a PDF so you can print it from your home or office and instantly attach it to your own packaging.
I have printed my postage paid shipping label, how should I package my item?
Thanks for asking! Cell phones require special packing to ensure their safety in shipping. We recommend a padded envelope or small box with lots of cushioning and bubble wrap. If you are not comfortable packaging the item yourself you can always ask to have it professionally packed. Once you have the package ready, just secure your label to it with sturdy, clear tape or a label pouch making sure that the ship-to address and bar codes are fully visible.
I don't have a printer to print my free shipping label, can I still send my cell phone to you for free?
Yes. If you cannot print a shipping label we will send you a free USPS postage-paid label in the post.
Do I have to go to the post office to ship my phone?
Not if you don't want to. We will send you either a postage paid envelope or label so that you have multiple options. You can either go to the post office or you can hand it directly to your local letter carrier. Packages less than 13oz (most phones weigh less than this) can be put directly into your nearest postbox.
Is my package insured against loss or damage?
Yes, your package is insured up to its given value. This insurance covers the shipment from loss due to carrier misconduct or loss of the entire shipment. It does not cover broken or damaged cell phones caused by inadequate packing. So make sure to pack your delicate cell phones with care!
What happens if I have lots of cell phones to send you?
You can always put multiple phones into one envelope or box. If you have a bulk load of phones to send us you can use a small box or we can send you multiple envelopes. We are committed to maintaining an environmentally friendly business and reducing waste so please use the smallest possible box or envelope whilst making sure to pack the phones securely.
What should I do if I mailed you the phone but forgot an accessory?
If you have forgotten any part of your order feel free to mail it to us separately at ExchangeMyPhone, 165 Court St, Suite 300, Brooklyn, NY, 11201. Please include your email address and the name and model number of the item you sent. Unfortunately we cannot pay for shipping items that you have forgotten, but we will take anything you send us into consideration when we evaluate your item.
Can I track my item from shipping to receiving payment?
Yes, you can. You can either call us, email us or enter your email on the ?track your phone' link on the top right-hand corner of our website. Will we get back to you as quickly as we can with the status of your exchange.
What happens if I wait a couple of months to send you my phone?
The value of each cell phone declines over time as new models are released. We are able to honor the instant price quote offered on our website for 30 days. We may have to change your offer if we receive the package after the 30 day period has expired. If your offer has expired you can still send the items to us but you may want to check our website first to see your phone's updated price.
Can I send you a cell phone from a country outside the US?
Yes. We accept phones from anywhere in the world. All shipping within the US is free but we are not able to pay for international postage. Wherever you are in the world feel free to contact your postal service provider about shipping something to us.
Payment
What happens once I have sent you my phone?
Once we receive your phone(s) our trained evaluators will assess its condition and make sure that all of your personal data has been erased. We aim to be as quick and careful as we can and we will send your exchange in a week or less. If you have sent more than one phone then we may take a little longer. You can always keep track of the status of your items on our website.
What happens if your evaluators find my phone to be in a different condition than I indicated on your website?
If our evaluators find that the condition of your phone does not match your submission description we will email you to let you know. We will make every effort to reach you but, if we do not hear from you, we will send the new re-priced amount to you after 5 business days.
What happens if I'm not happy with the re-price that you have offered me after evaluation?
If you don't agree with a re-price or diagnosis please email us and we can send you more information explaining why your item has been re-priced. We want you to be comfortable and satisfied with our service. If you are not satisfied with our diagnosis we will send you back your item at absolutely no cost to you.
How do I get paid?
Once your phone has been evaluated you can choose whether you want to be paid via PayPal or check. You can also chose to donate the value of your cell phone to any charity of your choice.
