One for One Book Project

We want to empower you to give back to the community. To do that, we donate one book to local literacy initiatives for every phone that we buy. One for One.

Why a book project?

As a young business based in Brooklyn, New York, we wanted to see ExchangeMyPhone give back to the vibrant community that we live and work in. We wanted to affect change in a tangible and real way so we came up with the One for One Book Project.

Much like phones, books and the ability to read them, are part of what connects us to our world and expands our shared experience. They are part of our future and our past. The ability to read empowers us to operate fully in the world. Our mission at ExchangeMyPhone is to help improve literacy and increase lifelong learning.

According to the National Institute for Literacy, success in school -- and life -- starts with literacy. If children become good readers in the early grades, they are more likely to become better learners throughout their school years and beyond. However, over 97 million Americans cannot read beyond the fifth grade level and nearly 3.7 million New Yorkers need adult literacy services, but only 3.2% have access to them. Many of these adults are considered “functionally illiterate” meaning they cannot locate an intersection on a map, comprehend the instructions on a medical prescription, or understand the implications of their child’s report card. We want to do our bit to help children and adults learn to read.
