Who We Are

Do you want to be rewarded for doing something good? At ExchangeMyPhone we have created a place for you to easily sell or recycle your used or broken cell phones. By salvaging your old cell phones we give you the opportunity to make money and to Double The Good.

For People. We want to empower everyone to give back to the community. To do that, we donate one book to local literacy initiatives for every phone we buy.

For the Environment. By giving your phones a second life with us we are keeping them in circulation rather than sending them to landfills as toxic e-waste.

OUR TEAM

FOUNDER – Jeremy Cohen

Growing up the value of re-use was a daily part of my life. As a baby I was strapped to my dad’s back as he worked at our family's second hand book store. At the age of 6 my entrepreneurial spirit kicked in (lemonade stands soon branched out to brownie and lemonade combos). After college I realized that I wanted to bring the values of re-use to the technological world.  I saw the toxic dangers of e-waste landfills and researched ways to either extend the lifecycle of electronics or responsibly recycle them. I wanted to start with one electronic product (before expanding our supply) and everyone I knew had a cell phone graveyard somewhere in their house. So in 2011 I moved to New York to launch ExchangeMyPhone.

As a young business based in Brooklyn, New York, I wanted to see ExchangeMyPhone giving back to the community. Not only could customers feel like they were helping the environment but they could also see real improvement in the lives of the people in their community. Thus, the DoubleTheGood program was started. I made a promise that for every phone we bought we would give one book to a local organization in need.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR - Katherine Preston

I met Jeremy while traveling across America and researching for a book. I had left my job in asset management in London to come to the US and face my fear of stuttering. My plan was to be the first woman to write a creative non-fiction on the experiences of people who stutter. I had no intention of either falling in love or launching a business. But life surprises us sometimes. I met Jeremy in 2008 and, in 2009, we set off on a road trip across the country. While couch-surfing and dumpster diving in Austin, TX, we saw living proof of the old adage that one man's waste is another's treasure.

Having written my book (www.katherinepreston.com) I am now using my writing and speaking skills to spread the word about ExchangeMyPhone. I love hearing from our customers and seeing how we can improve the business to benefit you.
